Spiralling fuel prices and competition from major rivals have been blamed for the collapse of South Yorkshire haulier E Pawson & Son. The Braithwell-based haulier called in administrators The P&A Partnership on Friday (11 April), and a 180 staff were made redundant. About 110 of those staff were based at Pawson's head office, while the remainder will go from Pawson Europort in Normanton and Pawson Wakefield.
However, 18 jobs will be kept on as part of an overnight delivery service through Pallex. The family run operator ran a fleet of 112 trucks. The company says soaring fuel costs and competition from major logistics companies had caused Pawson's demise, because it was unable to pass the additional costs on to customers.
