Ryder plans to spend £10.6m on new rental vehicles for delivery this year. The 333-vehicle order comprises 7.5-tonne to 18-tonne rigids and 40-tonne and 44-tonne tractor units, all to Euro 5 SCR specification. Among the rigids will be 40 Mercedes-Benz Axors and 196 Daf LF45-160 7.5 tonners (specified to EEV standards). The artics will be Daf CFs.
Ryder managing director David Hunt says: "More than 140 of the new trucks will carry Daf bodywork. This will provide us with quicker and more reliable lead times, and, as a one-stop-shop ourselves, we appreciate the improved and consistent quality benefits these 'whole vehicles' will provide."
He adds: "We've seen a significant upturn in our truck rental business during the past 18 months and this new order enables us to continue to support customer preferences, while reflecting the significant increase in demand for rental periods of six to 12 months and longer."
