Transport and warehousing operator Pollock (Scotrans) has stepped in to take over some of Ramage Distribution's work following its move into administration, providing a lifeline to paper-maker Tullis Russell.
Pollock operations manager Mark Jackson says: "Because we had existing relationships [with Tullis Russell] we have supported them at this time. For the moment it is a stop-gap nothing has been arranged for the medium or long term." He adds: "We certainly weren't going to see them struggle. They made a call to us and said 'please help'. We are mixing it in with our general haulage, subbing a bit where we can and generally providing the cover."
Meanwhile the administrator for Lanarkshire-based Ramage Distribution has confirmed that the firm's turnover was as high as £30m when KPMG accountants were called in on 9 April. A KPMG spokeswoman was unable to confirm whether there will be a dividend for creditors as CM went to press.
Ramage Distribution has no connection with Newcastle-based Ramage Transport.
