The company that runs the London Construction Consolidation Centre (LCCC) says it wants to attract a string of new contractors looking to use it as a materials hub. Logistics specialist Wilson James recently moved the LCCC to a facility in Silvertown, east London, from its previous warehouse premises in Bermondsey, south of the River Thames. The firm believes the new 6,000m2 centre - close to the Thames Barrier, the City, Docklands and the 2012 Olympics site - makes it more accessible to all the major London markets.
Materials are delivered to the centre and consolidated into more efficient loads before being dispatched to site. Gary Sullivan, Wilson James' managing director, says: "Skanska and the next generation of Bovis Stanhope schemes have signed up, so I'm very confident that it's starting to happen. "It was quite a big risk to start off with, but we've got the capacity to take more projects on-board."
