Irtec scheme to get IMI seal of approval

28 April 2008

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and its qualifications subsidiary IMI Awards have agreed to be responsible for managing the quality assurance process for the irtec scheme that certifies CV technicians.

IMI will manage the approval of test centres, monitor assessments and assessors, and will work with the Institute of Road Transport Engineers to develop future irtec assessments, new national occupational health standards and vocational qualification frameworks. Once an irtec licence  is issued, the technician is listed on a national register and bound by a code of conduct. The licence is valid for five years, after which reassessment is required.
