JDR Distribution has become the latest firm to collapse into administration - 10 months after it rebranded as 24-hour delivery service moved4u. A well-placed source, who did not wish to be named, claims the Tamworth, Staffordshire, company folded with debts of more than £1m and will not be sold as a going concern. Insolvency practitioner Cooper Parry LLP, which is handling the administration, was unavailable to comment as MT went to press.
JDR began in 1980 as a traditional haulage company, and clients included Caterpillar, Rover and Unipart. In 2006, the company underwent a management buy-out, headed by Jarrod Baughan, who became managing director. The firm re-branded in June 2007 as moved4u - a service that offered ad-hoc, 24-hour deliveries from the north-west to south-east of England. The concept was to give established pallet network members a less rigid alternative option for some of their delivery schedules.
Baughan told MT last month that turnover would rise from £5m to £8m this year and that the service was proving a hit with customers such as Wincanton, DSV, Redhead International and Leach Distribution. However, in a statement, DSV says: "We (DSV) had a limited service with JDR. "DSV had a contingency plan, as it always does, and any minor service hiccups which took place happened last week. "We are already contracted with a new supplier." As MT went to press it was unclear how many staff had lost their jobs.
