A tanker driver on the Tesco fuel contract at Thurrock has won TDG's Driver of the Year award. Alan Turner picked up £2,000 prize money, and now has the privilege of driving a truck with the number plate TDG 1 for the next year.
The TDG driver Excellence Awards, which have run since 1997, are handed out on the basis of ability, customer commendations and safety skills. Turner has been with the company for 14 years, mainly involved in petrol distribution work.
TDG says he demonstrated
"exceptional driving skills and courtesy on the road". TDG's Depot of the Year award went to its Wrexham site, which achieved a 99% score in a health and safety and maintenance audit.
