TransAction blasts the RHA for inaction

14 May 2008

The simmering row between pressure group TransAction and the RHA has reignited after the trade association refused to support Trans-Action's planned legal demonstration on 27 May.

Previously the RHA has said it would support legal protests providing there was sufficient backing from its membership. In light of last month's well-attended demonstration on Park Lane, which included sizeable representation from some of RHA's bigger members and the association's chief executive Roger King, TransAction  had assumed that the RHA would be behind a repeat demonstration.

However, Mike Presneill, one of the leaders of TransAction, says that the association's board has declined to offer any support. He says: "The RHA is doing the UK road haulage industry an injustice by not supporting [its] membership. It seems to spend too much time and money on conferences that don't seem to address the key issue: the survival of the industry."

Presneill also hit out at the association's leadership, claiming there is a "lot of distrust" among members. He adds: "I for one look forward to when Mr King exits the RHA." The RHA says that the board's policy was clearly explained to Mike Presneill and it will meet again on 29 May.
