Removable body lightens the load

16 May 2008

Welwyn-based John O'Connor Grounds Maintenance has avoided exceeding the 3.5t weight limit that triggers the use of tachographs by commissioning a lightweight and removable drop-side body on a long wheelbase Vauxhall Movano. The extra weight of the company's new lawn-mowers, as well as the need to use the trucks with flatbed bodies in the winter, meant the existing vehicles would have exceeded the 3.5t limit.

The answer came from bodybuilder BJ Searle, which designed a body that  can be removed in the summer to reduce weight. By also using Aalco's Loadsmore interlocking aluminium panels fitted directly to the side rails of the chassis to give a weight reduction of 71kg over existing vehicles, the savings were more than sufficient to compensate for the increased weight of the lawnmowers.
