Unions have warned of a potential clash with the new Mayor of London Boris Johnson if his choice for Transport for London (TfL) chairman is approved. Last week, Johnson nominated Tim Parker to be chairman of TfL from 1 September, subject to consultation with the London Assembly.
However, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), points to his time at the AA, where Parker cut about a third of the workforce.
Bob Crow, RMT general secretary says: "Parker has a reputation as a private-equity asset-stripper and has been dubbed the 'Prince of Darkness' by unions in the past. He has the opportunity to leave that reputation behind him when he starts work for the Mayor."
Parker says: "I've spent my career taking over struggling companies and making them strong. I see wonderful opportunities to transform the infrastructure of London and deliver better services to Londoners."
