Intramast agrees to UK maintenance to get licence

29 May 2008

Intramast (UK), a company controlled by Dutch firm De Rooy, has been granted an international licence for 40 vehicles and 40 trailers by North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell after it agreed to have them maintained in the North-West rather than in Holland. The Commissioner requires the company to re-register the vehicles, which are registered in Holland and Poland, within five months.

Leyland-based Intramast had to apply for a new licence after receiving a letter form VOSA indicating  that its operation fell outside cabotage rules and that if it wanted to continue operating vehicles in the North-West, it would need a licence. However, the TC had several concerns that she wanted addressed before she would grant a licence - such as vehicle maintenance, drivers' hours, and overloading.

At last week's hearing, the company said it was content to have maintenance contractors in the North-West undertake all vehicle maintenance. As far as re-registration was concerned, 18 vehicles have had the necessary technical adjustments to allow them to be registered in the UK. However, it was no further forward with the registration process as it was awaiting the outcome of the application.

The Commissioner said the company could apply for further time to re-register the vehicles after five months if it could show any delay had not been at its own hands.
