H Whittaker & Sons of Macclesfield is closing down after nearly 50 years in operation due to the owners retiring. The family-run haulage firm is auctioning off its 14 vehicles, mainly consisting of Daf tractor units, on Saturday 7 June through Malcolm Harrison Auctions.
Geoff Whittaker, one of the owners, tells MT: "We've no family interested in continuing the business and we want to maintain the land and property, so selling the operation isn't an option." The company's 15 staff
have been given three months' redundancy pay, adds Whittaker.
