The new Mercedes-Benz Actros has gone into the Guinness Book of Records as the "most fuel-efficient 40-tonne truck" after averaging 19.44 litres/100km over a 12,728.94km test at the Nardo test track. That equates to 14.53mpg. The Actros 1844 LS BlueTec 5 with standard long-haulage driver cab ran round the clock for seven days, hauling a 25-tonne-plus payload at an average speed of 80km/h (49.72mph). Diesel and motor oil was supplied by Shell, tyres by Continental and the trailer by Krone. The
test was monitored by German automotive inspection agency DEKRA.
