Morris pits new Dafs against existing fleet

05 June 2008

Two new, high-spec, Euro 5 Daf XF105 tractor units have been taken on by Lincolnshire haulage firm ET Morris to evaluate the marque. The firm has previously run mostly Volvos with a handful of Scanias also in the fleet. However, the latest arrivals - a pair of XF105s mid-lift tractors with Super Space cabs and automated AS-tronic transmissions - are there to see how they perform against the existing brands.

Neil Morris, managing director at the New York-based company, says that since the  trucks joined the fleet in early April they have been "performing well". "We went for the Super Space cab both for driver comfort and higher residual values. The AS-tronic transmission is there again for driver comfort and to prevent abuse like over-revving and using the wrong gear.

"In today's busy traffic conditions they enable the driver to concentrate on driving safely and take some of the effort and stress out of the job. I also expect an automatic gearbox to contribute to better fuel efficiency because the system is always choosing the right gear for the conditions." The 51-truck haulier handles work from Boston and the Humber ports, including containers, steel and timber. It has ordered another 15 Volvo FHs with Globetrotter XL cabs and Euro 5 engines for delivery later in the year.
