With only Hino and BMC attending last month's Tip-Ex 2008 show, the lack of chassis manufacturer presence allowed tipper market suppliers to show off their innovations without being swamped by the major manufacturers. Wilcox and C&C Hydraulics both launched sheeting systems, the former on a tipper with locking pins and better aerodynamics, while the latter offered a hydraulic netting system for bulk waste carriers.
Hyva showed two truck-mounted remote-control cranes (pictured), branded as Hyvacranes, following its earlier purchase of Ferrari Cranes. Many of the trailer and body exhibitors present had skipped April's CV Show in favour of the Harrogate event. Weight was a key theme: SDC Trailers with its half-pipe and bathtub trailers, Spanish-builder Granalu with its Omega 32 trailer and Chieftain's 'Alumax' all boasted competitive kerbweights.
Body builder Abba Commercials met Central Constructions' target by producing a Hardox/aluminium body that could carry in excess of 20 tonnes, and PPG Fabrications introduced the half-pipe design to a rigid tipper. Steve Grey, Tip-Ex organiser, revealed widespread interest in next year's show with Hino already booking its stand for 2009.
