A haulier has accused police of heavy-handed tactics after several drivers were given verbal warnings for driving too slowly during a fuel protest last week on the M60 and M602.
Andrew Greig, transport manager at Stockport-based Chris Bennett Haulage, says seven of his drivers were stopped at the end of the rolling demonstration.
Greig says drivers kept to the rules, but were still videoed by police. He adds: "Each driver was told that if they took part in another protest they would have their vehicle seized and lose their licence."
Assistant chief constable Ian Hopkins says: "The majority of those taking part expressed their views in a way that was agreed with police, that was safe for motorists and that caused minimum disruption.
"We are disappointed that a small number of other demonstrators let them down and acted in an unacceptable way, causing added disruption to some drivers."
