Yara and GreenChem have both announced price increases for AdBlue, as forecast a fortnight ago. Yara's price increase for its Air1 product took effect on 1 June and equates to 3p/litre. John Arne Ulvan, vice-president for environmental and speciality products at Yara, says: "We have delayed this increase for as long as possible. But these are exceptional times for suppliers."
Meanwhile, GreenChem will increase its prices by 6p/litre from 1 July. This is almost double the Continental price hikes because of exchange rates. GreenChem founding MD Teun de Bruijn says:
"We have no alternative to increasing our prices, but - due to the much steeper rise in the costs of diesel fuel - SCR technology using AdBlue still makes sound economic sense." AdBlue manufacturers have been hit by a sharp increase in the price of urea, from which the additive is made.
