Hauliers go slow on M6 in fuel protest

17 June 2008

Around 130 vehicles took part in a go-slow fuel protest on the M6 on Saturday. The trucks travelled from Lymm truckstop to Carnforth truckstop and then back again at 40mph.

Organiser Tony Burridge, logistics manager at Preston, Lancs-based Valera, says about 50 more trucks wanted to join the protest en route, but were unable to because the police had shut the junctions. "The public support was amazing. People were waving banners from the bridges." Valera adds that another protest may be  organised if fuel prices continue to soar.
