Hauliers' fuel protests are continuing across the UK in advance of the industry day of action planned for 2 July.
This Saturday (28 June), around 100 trucks are expected to travel slowly along one of of the busiest roads near Wrexham in North Wales. Haulier Stephen Williams of Stephen Wiliams Transport is organising the protest, which will start from his premises on the Wrexham industrial estate and travel on the A483 to Chester.
Last week, a 170-truck protest took place that stretched 10 miles on the M62 in West Yorkshire, between Normanton and Bradford.
Earlier protests outside refineries in Pembroke and Milford Haven seem to have provoked some positive reaction, says organiser Michael Gough, partner in AE Gough & Sons of Llandrindod Wells in Powys. Gough says that after the protests earlier this month, he was contacted by the deputy first minister of the Welsh Assembly, Ieuan Wyn Jones, and invited to a meeting this week.
Gough's local Westminster MP, Roger Williams, has also arranged for a delegation from the protesters to meet Wales office minister Huw Irranca Davies in July.
The 2 July Road Haulage Association (RHA) protest will include an effort to lobby MPs to accept a fuel price regulator. The lobby will begin at 11.30am opposite the House of Commons in Old Palace Yard.
