A haulier believes that a two-year driver training course has helped it make £240,000 of fuel savings.
Teesside-based Scott Bros sent 50 drivers to Van Hee Training to acquire level 2 and level 3 NVQ qualifications in Driving Goods Vehicles, as well as take a further course on Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED).
Peter Scott, transport manager at Scott Bros, says: "The training courses have given our drivers extra confidence and have shown them how to drive in a fuel-efficient way, saving us around £3,000 per truck per year in fuel costs.
"With 40 trucks and fuel being a significant cost for haulage companies, particularly now with soaring fuel costs, it's important 
our drivers do all they can to help."
John Charlton, Van Hee managing director, adds: "Companies engaged in the transport and distribution sector have a regular and ongoing need to update operator skills.
"Forward-thinking management like at Scotts are already seeing the benefits of investing in good training."
