Skills for Logistics (SfL) is working with transport companies to develop university foundation degrees (FDs) in logistics.
John Bowman, skills director at SfL, says: "It's primarily designed for people already working in the industry to access teaching from a university in focused logistics sectors."
In addition to employers such as TNT Logistics and Royal Mail, the Stiller Group has contributed to building the framework for the degrees.
Stiller Academy manager John Craig tells CM: "We've had a big part to play in it. We've test-driven it in our business so we know it works." He adds that Stiller's internal workshops cover leadership, management and team working.
Through a variety of teaching methods, including lectures and workshops, Bowman claims that the foundation degrees will potentially improve employability and open a path to higher degrees.
Institutions involved include Thames Valley University, the University of Teesside and Stoke College. The degrees will be tailor-made to meet a particular organisation's requirements.
