The government has decided not to privatise VOSA's truck testing sites and will instead invest £28m in upgrading the facilities.
The Department for Transport had been reviewing VOSA's functions since November 2005 and one area considered for outsourcing was truck testing.
However Transport Minister Jim Fitzpatrick made a statement about the extra cash to the House of Commons, saying that one of his main reasons for making the announcement had been to "resolve the uncertainty that has existed about VOSA's future".
