Fears that the head of Truckpol won't be replaced when he retires next year have been dispelled. Rumours were circulating that government funding for the Association of Chief Police Officers' Vehicle Crime Intell-igence Service (AVCIS), which Truckpol forms part of, was due to cease and therefore when detective constable (DC) Andy Round retires in March 2009, he would not be replaced.
Speaking to MT, Stacy Taylor, business manager at AVCIS, says: "Government funding is not stopping and we will definitely be replacing Andy. We are actually in the middle of a recruitment campaign for a sergeant and we also hope to be able to recruit a second DC once we've replaced Andy." TruckPol collates, analyses and disseminates data and intelligence on road freight crime from around the UK.
