The Highways Agency (HA) has awarded a five-year contract to track and monitor more than 400 winter service vehicles to telematics provider Cybit. The new arrangement will see the HA having access to a real-time national view of its winter maintenance fleet, plus detailed performance management information.
The telematics system will monitor location-based information, as well as recording whether the vehicles are ploughing, spreading, the spread rate/ pattern and width and lane position. The system will be provided in conjunction with specialist equipment from Romaquip and Schmidt on chassis supplied by MAN. The first vehicles will be on the road this autumn, with the remainder delivered over the next four years.
