In the same week that it has unveiled its new chief executive, Norbert Dentressangle (ND) has revealed that it is holding consultations with staff over plans to close three depots.
ND is currently involved in consultations over closing its depots at Pontypool, Torfaen; Southampton, Hampshire; and Bovey Tracey, Devon. A total of 150 jobs are under threat.
A spokesman for ND says: "We regret having to take this action, which is in response both to the general economic downturn and the need to streamline our service to customers.
"Every effort will be made to assist any employees made redundant at the end of the process, and to minimise disruption to customers."
Also this week, Norbert Dentressangle Group has appointed Francois Bertreau as chief executive. He has been a member of ND Group's executive board since 2002 and will replace Jean-Claude Michel, who has been chief executive since 1998.
Bertreau, who joined the ND group in 1998 as director of logistics, will continue to manage this division and will supervise strategy and acquisitions, as well as communications.
ND chairman Norbert Dentressangle says: "Over recent years, the Norbert Dentressangle Group has witnessed active, successful development under the drive of the executive board chaired by Jean-Claude Michel.
"Following the acquisition of Christian Salvesen, Norbert Dentressangle Group doubled in size and its scope of activity broadened significantly throughout Europe.
"On my suggestion, the supervisory board considered that a change was necessary in order to navigate and succeed operationally in a new and very important stage in the group's history and, as such, prepare to rise to the forthcoming challenges with a view to global development."
A spokesman for ND says the group will announce its half-year results next week and provide more details about how its integration with Christian Salvesen is progressing.
