Highways maintenance contractor Aone+ has bought 25 Mercedes-Benz vehicles after winning a five-year contract to maintain motorways and major roads in north-west England.
The joint venture, made up of Colas, Costain and Halcrow, was awarded the work from the Highways Agency. It covers the maintenance of 500km of roads, including stretches of the M6, M60, M61 and M62.
Aone+'s order includes 11 4x2 Econic 1824LLs for use as incident support units. There is also a batch of traffic management units: six Econic 1824LLs and three 6x2 Econic 2629LLs. Finally, a total of five new 18-tonne Axor 1824s will be used for routine barrier maintenance. They were supplied by Rossetts Commercials.
Trevor Purfield, national plant and transport manager for Colas, says: "We also considered vehicles from another manufacturer, but eventually opted for Mercedes-Benz because of the breadth of its product range, and the aftersales back-up from its dealer network."
