The streets of London are cleaner this week following the hand over of 10 Mitsubishi Fuso Canter Eco Hybrids to operators in the capital.
The eight operators – Amey, DHL, Hill Hire, Ringway, Royal Mail, Scottish and Southern, Tesco and TNT – are participating in a three-year, 3,000-vehicle trial of the diesel-electric 7.5-tonners, as a major part of Daimler's global 'Shaping Future
Transportation' programme.
The eight were chosen to provide a variety of types of operations while remaining within reach of two London Mercedes-Benz service centres, complete with specialist staff and equipment to monitor the trial.
Some 300 Canter Eco Hybrids are already in service in Japan, but the London versions will be the first to use drivelines complying with our own Euro-4 emission standard.
Fuel savings of up 15% are claimed for the hybrids compared with conventional diesels.
