The Department for Transport (DfT) is to review the UK domestic drivers' hours rules to decide whether there is a need to change the current regulations.
The review will consider:
- the safety of drivers of goods and passenger-carrying vehicles and other road users
- appropriate working conditions for drivers
- fair competition within the road haulage and passenger transport industries
- minimising the regulatory burden for industry
Differences between GB domestic hours' rules and the rules in Northern Ireland will also be included. The DfT is expected to announce its conclusions at the end of 2009.
