Stobart extends Tesco rail freight service

20 August 2008

Stobart Group is expanding its Tesco rail freight service between the Midlands and Scotland. From 6 September, the company will add a Saturday round trip to the Monday-to-Friday daily train service it operates between Daventry and Grangemouth.

Stobart says the additional rail service on the West Coast Main Line will remove more trucks from the M6 motorway and save about 2.4 million litres  of fuel per year.

From Grangemouth, the goods will be delivered by road to Tesco's distribution centre at Livingston.

Andrew Tinkler, Stobart Group chief executive, says: "This rail freight service is consistent with Stobart's strategy of providing multimodal transport and logistics.

"This service gives our customers cost savings, and it actively addresses the UK's concerns over road congestion and carbon emissions."
