Gordon Leslie looks to increase warehousing

Thursday 04 September 2008 12:00

Glasgow operator Gordon Leslie Distribution says it is hoping to develop more warehousing space following a successful first year in its Hillington Park site. Managing director Craig Leslie says the 110,00ft² of warehousing available at its premises has allowed it to offer more services to its existing clients, as well as attracting new ones.

He says: "We've always been known as a transport company, but the move to the new site has allowed us to develop the storage side as well." Leslie says the firm has now purchased a plot of land adjacent to the Penilee Road depot, on which it hopes to build a 50,000ft² warehouse. It is currently conducting a feasibility study into the project.

He believes that the expansion of the storage operation and other added-value services have added around 5% to the company's turnover. The firm has also just inves-ted in new vehicles: six Volvo FL 18-tonners and six Volvo FH 440 6x2 artics, the majority of which are replacements and take the fleet tally to 24.
