Widnes-based container haulier Transworld Transport has begun a fleet replacement programme with the delivery of six MAN TGXs. They will replace existing MAN TGAs in Transworld's fleet, which consists of 29 MAN and Mercedes-Benz tractor units. Director Ian Moses says the fleet is split 50/50 between the two manufacturers and they were all on contract hire and maintenance.
"When you get trucks on contract hire, there's not much difference in the price, so it's down to the tractor unit itself and the MAN is a very good truck. The fuel consumption is fabulous and the backup from our local service people, P&K Trucks in Widnes, is second to none," Moses reveals. He adds that MAN's EGR approach to engines is also a bonus at a time when AdBlue prices are rising.
"We haven't turned our back on AdBlue and will continue to consider Mercedes-Benz tractor units, but at the moment it is more of a cost due to the prices and it does create a bit of extra hassle in terms of storing it."
Transworld is leasing the trucks on a three-year contract-hire agreement through MAN Financial Services and will take delivery of another six TGXs in October.
