Agency launches driver fuel-efficiency scheme

17 September 2008

Driver Hire is to launch a fuel-efficient accreditation programme for agency drivers next month, which will enable it to supply drivers who are well-informed on fuel-saving driving techniques.

Jeremy Neale, head of business process and compliance at Driver Hire, says: "We are constantly listening to feedback from our clients and want to help ease their pain-points. The cost of fuel has obviously been the biggest problem for customers this year, so we've developed a course to help  drivers drive more efficiently."

The training will be provided at every Driver Hire location in the country and initially be offered to every new driver that joins the agency's books. It will then be rolled out to existing drivers. "The training will consist of a DVD and a written test. Successful drivers will then be branded as a Driver Hire Accredited Fuel-Efficient Driver," says Neale.

The agency is also in the process of developing a Home-Delivery Accredited Driver training course. "This would be more niche, so we wouldn't expect all drivers to take up this training. It would basically provide drivers with the key skills needed to be a good home delivery driver, such as customer service and being articulate and well-presented," adds Neale.
