Medical equipment supplier and distributor Unisurge has taken delivery of a rather special Volvo FH, which will be used to transfer surgical procedure kits to and from the company's sterilisation plant at Alfreton, Derbyshire, as well as hospital deliveries nationwide.
The 80th Anniversary FH-480 was chosen for its reliability and looks, according to transport manager Steve Carter. "What we needed for this type of work is complete reliability; I've been driving Volvos for 15 years and in that time they've only broken down twice."
The drawbar prime mover has a dual function within its role, helping to utilise its flexibility. Carter explains: "We can leave the trailer behind and do on-site deliveries, even in London; it's only three feet longer than the 12-tonne Volvo FL rigids we use, but has the ability to do full-capacity runs up to our sterilisation plant."
He adds that Unisurge has a close relationship with its dealer, with which it has a full service contract for the new Volvo, and this helped to clinch the deal.
