Scotch Premier opts for new Mercedes-Benz Actros

22 September 2008

Long lead times from its main supplier Daf have led Scotch Premier Meat to purchase a new Mercedes-Benz Actros 2548 tractor unit. However, the Inverurie, Aberdeenshire-based operator says there are no plans as yet to oust Daf as the marque of choice.

The 16-truck firm approached Aberdeen's Mercedes dealer John R Weir (Truck &  Van) after deciding Daf's 18-month lead time was too long.

Although the vehicles have similar fuel efficiency levels, transport manager Charlie Thomson stresses that as the older vehicles in the fleet are replaced, Mercedes will not be an automatic choice. Thomson adds: "We'll be monitoring the Actros's performance closely, but the early signs look very promising. We'll see how this one goes."

The Actros is equipped with PowerShift 12-speed automated transmission and a flat-floored MegaSpace cab. Scotch Premier Meat, a subsidiary of ANM Group, supplies a range of wholesalers and high street butchers throughout the UK.
