Transport secretary Ruth Kelly has resigned from her post and will step down at the next cabinet reshuffle.
Kelly, who is leaving to spend more time with her family, took over the transport role in July 2007 in a move that saw her replace Douglas Alexander.
Prior to becoming Transport secretary, Kelly was Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
