Carroll: too hard hitting for RHA top job?

24 September 2008

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has had a surprise application for the role of chief executive – Peter Carroll, who runs Seymour Transport in Maidstone and is one of the leading lights of pressure group TransAction. Carroll was interviewed by four senior RHA figures two weeks ago as the association looks to replace outgoing chief executive  Roger King.

However, he has subsequently been rejected by the RHA's selection panel – comprising chairman Andy Boyle, former chairman Willie Oliver, director of employment Ruth Pott and company secretary James Falkner – as they thrashed out a shortlist.

Carroll adds: "It will be fascinating to see who the RHA appoints – I hope they will have some way of generating influence among politicians. I think I was just too hard-hitting."

MT understands that the RHA will conduct second interviews later this week and hopes to be able to announce the successful candidate by the middle of next month.
