Ruptured fuel tank causes chaos on Isle of Wight

Wednesday 01 October 2008 12:00

A lorry's leaking fuel tank has caused chaos on the Isle of Wight, leading to numerous collisions and a road being closed off.

At 8am today (Wednesday 1 October), the fuel tank of a Scania ruptured, spilling diesel over Brading High Street. This caused motorists to lose control of their vehicles - but despite a car crashing into a tree and two other cars colliding, there were no serious injuries.

The road between Brading and Yaverland has been closed, and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police advise drivers to steer clear of the town of Brading. Approximately 300 litres of fuel have spilled into the drainage system.
