A Tilbury, Essex haulier has gone into administration after its major customer went under owing it nearly £100,000. Home Counties Transport boss David Tucker says the firm was unable to continue business last week after Westerlund UK went into voluntary liquidation. Westerlund's difficulties came about when it was hit with a £2.4m rates bill it could not afford.
Home Counties owes money to "50 or 60" subcontractors, says Tucker, with the biggest single debt approximately £7,000. Four staff have already been laid off. Andrew Segal of Begbies Traynor is handling the administration.
