The Road Haulage Association (RHA) and Freight Transport Asssociation (FTA) are both hoping that the new transport secretary, to be appointed following Ruth Kelly's surprise resignation, will have greater understanding of the transport industry and its needs.
"It's a critical time for road hauliers and we would want to see someone who really can hit the ground running," says Kate Gibbs, RHA head of communications.
Jo Tanner, FTA director of communications, adds: "We will be hoping for a Secretary of State with the vision to see that an investment in infrastructure is an investment in the future."
