Robert Wiseman Dairies gets OK for new depot

06 October 2008

Robert Wiseman Dairies has received planning permission for a new depot in Wiltshire. The firm has conditionally agreed to buy the nine-acre site in Amesbury for £4.5m; it is now finalising costs and construction timescales before committing to build the depot.

The move could result in more driving jobs for the  firm, which has just secured a contract with Co-Operative Retail Group stores in the South-East, as well as recently winning more business with existing customers Netto and Martin McColl.

Its new dairy at Bridgwater, Somerset is now processing more than four million litres per week.

However, Wiseman has just notified its customers of an across-the-board increase in prices, which, it says, is necessary to recoup higher costs.

Billy Keane, group finance director, says: "We remain confident that, with our new Bridgwater dairy now fully on-stream and a new distribution site acquired, we are well positioned for future growth."
