German trailer maker Krone chose the IAA Show in Hannover to debut its new steel-bodied refrigerated trailer, the Cool Liner Duoplex Steel. Available in single and double-deck options, it has larger panels in the sidewall and roof sections to reduce the number of joints, a variable layout of load securing rails and double-deck rails and sufficient ground clearance for an under-belly 36-pallet box.
The semi-trailer has continuous steel coatings and a reinforced, foam-topped floor assembly to ensure maximum insulation. HACCP-certified (hazard analysis and critical control points) sidewalls are easy to clean and repair, and the fluid-proof, 125mm-thick floor is welded directly, with the continuous lateral angled skirts, to a pan.
Additional reinforcement at the stainless-steel clad rear end enables high forklift heights while entry is also suitable for both chutes and ramps and comes equipped with laterally inlaid aluminum door hinges. The Cool Liner Duoplex Steel is fitted with a door contact switch ensuring the interior is automatically illuminated when the door is opened.
These lights, together with their cables, are integrated in the roof panel to protect against damage. The flexible air duct on the ceiling distributes the cold air evenly and is also designed for double-deck loading. The Cool Liner also features Vario Lock, a new piece of load securing equipment especially developed for transporting flowers. Other features include: a protected plastic fuel tank individually changeable under-run bars a foldable rebound plate watertight kick strips and an optional side-loading door.
A new type of partition wall can be positioned anywhere in the internal length of the loadspace to create different temperature zones. Split strapping, meat securing, vertical and horizontal securing rails can all be specified and the trailer is suitable for 'piggyback' multi-modal road-rail operation. Krone also teamed up with EcoFridge to demonstrate a carbon emission-free refrigerator unit at the German show.
