Ford's all-wheel-drive (AWD) Transit has gone on sale in the UK. The van is also joined by a new engine option - a five-speed 114hp 2.2-litre TDCi to replace the current 2.2-litre 109hp five-speed unit. From early next year, all drivelines will also have a standard diesel particulate filter, claimed to reduce particulates by 95%. In addition, a standard shift indicator light in cab will inform the driver when best to change gear to reduce CO2 emissions.
Elsewhere, a front-wheel-drive (FWD), medium-wheelbase, low-roof double-cab with 14% more loadspace than the equivalent short-wheelbase version is set to launch early next year. Joining this will be a long-wheelbase single and double chassis-cab, with the utility double-cab version sporting panelled rear door and removed rear seats.
The fully-mechanical AWD version directs power to the front wheels via a clutch system when it senses rear wheel slippage. Weighing in at an extra 80kg, the 4x4 system is based on the 2.4-litre Duratorq TDCi rear-wheel-drive model in either short-wheelbase (SWB), MWB or LWB versions.
