A device has been unveiled that enables truck drivers to check their brake lights more easily prior to taking their vehicle on the road. The Brakeaware electrical safety system allows a driver, while standing behind his vehicle making routine checks, to activate the brake lights using a fob. It is fitted in the cab, connects to the brake light feed and has a range of up to 70m.
The product will be on display at the British Invention Show at Alexandra Palace from October 15 to 18. John Arundel, an LGV driver who works for A&L Transport, designed and developed the technology. He says: "The cab can be 60 feet away from the rear of the vehicle so you cannot always see the reflection of the brake lights to check if they are working. "This could prove to be a very serious and expensive problem."
