A new Stobart Group distribution centre in Cheshire - which would create more than 1,000 jobs - is set to be recommended for approval next week. Plans to develop the warehouse, at the Widnes Intermodal Freight Terminal, are due to be examined by members of the local development control committee on Monday. The multi-million-pound refrigerated warehouse, if approved, could open next year.
Stobart is currently in negotiations with several-blue chip companies over possible 25-year leases at the site. Steve O'Connor, director of the Stobart Group Widnes division, says: "It will be refrigerated, which means a lot more activity than non-food. Everything from confectionery to dairy products could be stored there. "A building of that size will potentially need more than 1,000 employees."
