Pallet-Track says it's been delighted by the first week of operation at its new Wolverhampton hub. The 65-member network moved across to the Titan Distribution Centre from its previous site at Wednesbury, West Midlands, on 6 October and so far has not had any hiccups, says MD Nigel Parkes.
He adds: "It's run better than anyone could have expected. The first night we were about an hour behind schedule, the second night we ran to time and the following night we ran early." Parkes says that members have been pleased with the switch to the new 267,000ft² hub, which is more than twice the size of its previous site.
"I think it's down to very good planning on everyone's part. The members also got vehicles there slightly early as they expected hiccups." Members had previously been given the opportunity to view the site at an open day on 1 October.
Malcolm Thompson, chief executive of Herefordshire operator Burgoynes (Lyonshall), says: "It's very impressive, we are moving into the modern world, it's one of the best facilities for a company that was one of the later entrants into the pallet sector. It's certainly one of the most modern [hubs]. It will offer greater efficiency and a faster turnaround for my business."
And Greg Barnes, MD of Leicester firm Translink Express Logistics, adds: "So far so good. It's certainly eye-catching - you see it as soon as you come off the roundabout. There's a lot of room for expansion too." Parkes sees the move as "another benchmark in the history of the business" and adds: "It's a big financial commitment, especially when you hear all the doom and gloom that's being reported, but the fact is we'd outgrown our previous premises and needed to commit to a new site. All the members are behind it."
