TDG is about to launch its new operation to manage the road transport operations of Aggregate Industries Building Materials (AIBM). The company's eight-year deal with Aggregate is due to begin on 3 November at the site in Linby, Nottinghamshire. TDG will contract and centrally manage existing hauliers used by Aggregate companies Charcon, Bradstone, Fyfestone and Masterblock.
An initial team of 50 TDG staff will procure haulage, plan routes to minimise empty running, and provide web reporting for planners, hauliers and customers. The transport firm believes the agreement will save Aggregate more than three million road miles per year and cut its annual CO2 emissions by 12%. TDG already runs a similar operation in Scunthorpe for steel manufacturer Corus.
This involves the company centrally managing 60 individual Corus production and distribution sites, as well as about 30 hauliers. A spokesman for Aggregate Industries says: "TDG have successfully proven their ability to manage technology-enabled transport platforms." Mark Starosolsky, TDG operations director for the Aggregate project, says: "We are pleased with the how our Corus operation has performed and are looking forward to helping Aggregate in a similar way."
