Study reveals 3PLs struggling on service levels

22 October 2008

3PLs are failing to realise service level commitments to their clients, according to the 13th Third-Party Logistics Study, produced by Capgemini. The survey of around 1,600 logistics executives worldwide (more than a third from Europe) reveals:

  • 51% said their 3PLs failed to realise service level commitments.
  • 42% said there is a lack of continuous improvement among their 3PLs.
  • 39% said their 3PLs' IT capabilities are inadequate.
  • 36% said promised cost reductions  have not been realised.

However, 86% do report successful experiences with logistics outsourcing. The study also suggests that there is "room for improvement in 3PL management capabilities".
