TDG to run Aggregate's transport arm

22 October 2008

TDG is poised to launch an operation in Nottinghamshire to manage the road transport operations of Aggregate Industries Building Materials (AIBM) following the award of a £50m contract earlier this year. The eight-year contract is due to start on 3 November at a facility in Linby.

Under the deal, TDG will contract and centrally manage existing hauliers used by AIBM firms Charcon,  Bradstone, Fyfestone and Masterblock. An initial team of 50 TDG staff will procure haulage, plan routes and provide web reporting for planners, hauliers and customers.

TDG believes the agreement will save Aggregate more than three million road miles per year and cut its annual CO2 emissions by 12%. TDG already runs a similar operation for steel manufacturer Corus in Scunthorpe. It involves centrally managing 60 individual Corus production and distribution sites, as well as about 30 hauliers.

Mark Starosolsky, TDG operations director for the AIBM project, says: "We are pleased with how our Corus operation has performed and are looking forward to helping Aggregate in a similar way." A spokesman for AIBM says: "TDG has proven its ability to manage technology-enabled transport platforms. It clearly understands the need to align supply chain strategy with overall business goals."
