The first biogas fuel station in London has been set up. Waste management firm Veolia, which is running an Iveco Daily as part of a six-month trial of compressed biomethane, will use the facility at the London Borough of Camden's York Way depot. Drivers of the Daily will carry out refuse collection, recycling and street cleaning. The gas is produced by Gasrec and extracted at a landfill site in Albury, Surrey.
Richard Lilleystone, chief executive at Gasrec, says: "This step makes concrete the infrastructure for our trial and also lays the foundations for possible further collaboration with Camden Council." Cllr Chris Knight, executive member for environment at Camden Council, adds: "If this trial proves successful, we aim to fuel part of Camden Council's own fleet."
