McLaren puts fuel economy in pole position

Thursday 30 October 2008 12:00

You might not think that a Formula 1 team would be concerned about fuel economy, but the drivers who haul all the McLaren equipment required for races are being trained to take the most environmentally-friendly approach on the road.

The company's 26 drivers are involved in a driver challenge and McLaren uses Mercedes-Benz FleetBoard technology to monitor the driving of its fleet of Actros trucks. The internet-based telematics system measures fuel economy, braking distances, severity of braking, gear changes and rev limits.
